about

This track (completed especially for the Address Book project in October 2013) is built around the voice sample that the begins the piece. This was provided by Melbourne-based composer/musician, Jack Quigley. He says about the recording:

'I made [the recording] in the North Tanami Desert, NT, with a young Walpiri man for a project we were working on called Yama. He is saying "Niya Yamaju" meaning "what is Yama?" or "What does yama mean?" Yama is the Walpiri word for the shade, a tree, or a shelter that is made to give shade that people can gather under to meet. Taking it further it could also mean reflection or mirror.'

I drastically slowed down and stretched this recording, then overlaid that with the same stretched version in reverse (thus, the 'reflection').
