KAOS was my very first 'band'. It was mostly me and Kevin Ryan making noise on instruments we couldn't play, or applying this same equation to grind versions of glam metal songs. Occasionally friends guested on tracks, mainly if they had an instrument or were willing to give it a go. The line-up for this track was myself and Kevin on vocals, Jason Cran on bass, and Jose (surname long forgotten) on drums. The lyrics for this song were actually from an Adelaide band called Hoot McKloot; for some reason I had the lyric sheet to their LP, but not the record itself (I didn't hear the actual song until years later; not surprisingly it is very different). The idea was Kevin and I would sing the lyrics (Kevin decided just to do his fantastic grind rambling instead), whilst Jason and Jose just made up some music. Kevin and I were doing this sort of unskilled improv quite a lot, but I think our two guests were a bit mystified by it, but they pulled it off in fine fashion. Listening back, it was quite audacious for us teenagers to think we could do this; pinch someone else's lyrics to a song we'd never heard, and drag in these to friends and demand they make up the music on the spot. Recorded on a ghetto blaster tape deck sometime in 1990. Kevin and I went on to form our first 'proper' band, Punchbag, in about 1991.
